The Authors

George Seper

George began his photographic career in New York City in the early 1970s photographing theatrical productions and portraits of actors, as well as freelance assisting with commercial photographers.

He immigrated to Australia in 1974 and set up his first studio in Sydney in 1978 after having worked for three years as a photographer’s assistant for the Creative Director of Vogue, Patrick Russell. George’s photographic work was concentrated initially on fashion and beauty, and he was a regular contributor to Vogue, Mode Magazine, Cleo and Cosmopolitan. Later he branched into shooting interiors and food before switching his focus to shooting food.

His food photography revolutionized the way food was photographed. He approached food with the eye of a fashion photographer and often worked with 35 mm cameras handheld in natural light. George pioneered the short depth of field look that has become the worldwide standard for how food is still photographed.

His food photographs have since appeared in over 30 countries in publications such as Vogue Italia, Madame Figaro Paris, Gentleman’s Quarterly, Martha Stewart Living, Gourmet, Vogue Entertaining and Travel and an array of other magazines from Russia to Brazil. He has photographed several cookbooks, and his advertising clients include Wedgewood, Royal Doulton, McDonald's and Wild Turkey Bourbon to name just a few.

He currently works out of his studio in Newtown in Sydney Australia and concentrates on advertising work, image libraries and contributing to several cookbooks each year.

Julian Watt

"Julian has won gold, silver and bronze at many international shows and was once selected as a finalist in thirty categories at one show! The international shows include Clio, Cannes, D&AD, London internationals, New York Festivals, Communication Arts, Adfest… that's just on the work that I've had the pleasure of producing with him. He's also an awesome smart, super talented image maker who gets it. I miss working with him, it's been too long. Since I moved from Asia to the states, we haven't had the opportunity for obvious reasons, but I look forward to the day where we can collaborate again!" - Craig Smith, Creative, New York.

Julian is an established, conceptual advertising photographer based in Sydney, Australia. Clients work with him because he’s versatile, a wizard with light, has never had to do a reshoot and always makes it look easy. He rolls with the punches and doesn’t get flustered. His productions are often large scale, but he also enjoys smaller, more flexible creative briefs.

Julian has a passion for sharing his knowledge and experience with students and has been authoring materials and teaching within the Australian VET sector for many years.
